The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives and work at a scale many of us could not have imagined when we kicked off 2020. Here at AppFolio, we wanted to dive into the ways in which COVID-19 has impacted the community association management industry, so we launched a nationwide survey. (For results on how this is affecting Multifamily Property Management, see this recent post.)

COVID-19 Policies in Community Association Management

Based on the survey data, we can see just how quickly community association management professionals are responding to the situation. We found that nearly 90% of the survey respondents either have a COVID-19 policy in place or are working on one. The data we collected also showed that 60% of respondents not only had a policy in place, but it had also been formally communicated to their associates and homeowners. This is excellent to see that the community association management industry is quickly responding to a fast-moving situation, ensuring they are best preparing their businesses and processes during this time of uncertainty.

Maintaining Business Continuity

Community association management professionals are focusing on adjusting their operations to ensure their businesses can continue running in this new environment, accounting for social distancing, new government actions, and more. From the professionals who took our survey, we learned how they are maintaining business continuity. Here are a few highlights:

  • 46% are changing their maintenance processes by addressing emergency work orders only.
  • 48% canceled or postponed board meetings until further notice.
  • 43% are changing their violation walks processes by enacting social distancing.
  • 19% are accepting online payments only.
